Tablebases.com has a fantastic selection of bases to suit any table top and décor. One question we get quite often is how to couple a table base with a glass table top.
Tablebases.com offers a glass top adapter that can be paired with select models of stainless steel and steel table bases. The glass top adapter takes the place of the mounting plate, which would normally be bolted or screwed into the table top material. The glass top adapter is an aluminum disk that matches the brushed metal finish on our stainless steel bases. It attaches to your glass table top with a clear epoxy glue (not included with the adapter), and is then bolted to the table base. The result is a very stable connection between your glass top and your table base, without ruining the sleek and modern style that glass tops provide. Looking down onto your finished table, you would only see your beautiful table base, and the aluminum disk(s).
The Glass Top Adapter is compatible with select models from the following series:
- RFL Series Stainless Steel Table Bases
- RSQ Series Stainless Steel Table Bases (with Optional Round Columns)
- Eclipse Stainless Steel Bolt Down Table Base
- Ravello Series
To install the adapter, you first glue the adapter to the underside of your glass table top, so that it is securely attached. Next, it bolts down onto the base. We recommend a specific epoxy for the job, Loctite Brand Hysol Product 0151 (NOT included with adapter). That is a two part epoxy that, when dry, is optically clear. After everything is set and installed, when you look through your table top, you should just see beautiful stainless steel and aluminum (or steel if you choose a base with a black finish). We do recommend you hire a glass professional or contractor to install the glass top adapter for you. The process sounds simple, but mixing the epoxy, cleaning the glass and centering the adapter can be harder than it seems. When it comes to glass table tops, many people want to set the glass on top of a table base, and let gravity hold it in place. While this may work for some applications, it is not something we recommend. It's always best to have the table top firmly attached to the table base, for safety and stability's sake. That way, if someone knocks the table, or there is a natural disaster like an earthquake, the table top is much less likely to be damaged, or worse, fall off and injure a guest.
The Glass Top Adapter is listed under the "accessories" tab at the top of our website, with table base accessories. The adapter does not include adhesive for attaching your glass table top (we recommend Loctite, Hysol Product 0151 optically clear adhesive). We recommend you contact a professional contractor or glass fabricator in your area for installation. Please order this adapter at the same time you order your table base, so that we can ensure compatibility with your table base. Please note: Photo is representative. The bottom plate (to couple adapter to the column of your chosen table base) is black, not silver. Please contact our customer service team for more information about compatible table bases.
